A Touch Of Teak in the Kitchen
This design began with the challenge of integrating the kitchen into the open plan dining and living area without overwhelming the space with millwork. This was achieved through the use of a light colour pallet which flowed seamlessly into the rest of the main floor. The use of soft grey tones gives the cabinetry a light and airy feel. Working with a small footprint, the design team was able to provide ample storage for all the needs of a growing family. The homeowners expressed their desire to have everyday items displayed on open shelving for quick access. This prompted the incorporation of a unique open shelf detail, which was highlighted by applying a contrasting teak material to add depth and interest to the space. In order to make this detail stand out further, hardware was omitted from the cabinetry above leaving a sleek, clean finish. The teak accent was repeated throughout the kitchen on both sides of the island. The shallow drawers at the island seating area repeat the teak detail and help to keep the clutter at bay. Understated and yet striking in its simplicity, this kitchen uses simple details and contrasting colours to create a stunning and functional space.
