Situated in the city’s Westboro area, among a mass of new infill’s, this semi-detached home needed to stand out. Working with a build-to-sell contractor, the design team was given free reign over the design of the kitchen; this was both a blessing and a challenge. Faced with the small footprint of this kitchen, the design demanded creativity to achieve maximum storage as well as a space that flowed seamlessly into the open plan living area. Shallow floating cabinets anchored on the left of the cook-top accentuate this transition between the kitchen and living room. A narrow, yet tall window located in the corner of the kitchen presented a unique lighting opportunity which draws the eye deep into the space. The reflection of light off the high gloss backsplash enhances this distinctive feature. The island, although simple, acts as a focal point anchoring the kitchen in the open space. All of these unique features, along with the use of both rustic and contemporary finishes allow this kitchen to stand out from the crowd.
